Fashion Design at The Dali: Surreal Style Inspired by Dali & Schiaparelli

Step into Elsa Schiaparelli’s shoe-hat and draw inspiration from Salvador Dali to create an original wearable work of art to send down the Museum’s runway and have professionally photographed for display in a special exhibition at The Dali.

This program is being introduced in conjunction with The Dali’s special exhibition Dali & Schiaparelli, opening October 18, 2017.

Schedule:
The program consists of 13 Sunday sessions from September 17, 2017 through December 10, 2017,  2-5pm. (There will be no session held on Sun, Nov 26 due to the Thanksgiving holiday). Sessions will be held at The Dali and off-site at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts (PCCA) located at Gibbs High School. A full schedule of topics and dates will be provided at the first meeting; a few samples of session topics include: Rendering & Design, Measurements & Drapery and Model Making.

Special thanks to our colleagues at American Stage, Dedee Aleccia, Benjamin Ismail, Frank Chavez, Jerid Fox, Jill Castle & Tiffany Ford, for welcoming our designers, who learned about theater’s production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing; got a behind-the-scenes tour of the set under construction and the costume shop; and had a fun, educational and inspiring afternoon.

Here is a sneak peek at some of the details of the designs being created, including unconventional materials and hand dying.
